TEXAS DEAF ISSUES LISTSERV LAUNCHED
In the past, the Symposium on Deafness helped identify critical issues affecting D/deaf and hard of hearing Texans which helped determine legislative priorities in the Texas Legislature. This was a great undertaking (both financially and manpower-wise) to have these conferences every few years.
With today’s rapidly changing world, the Internet has helped make communication much easier through email, blogs, vlogs, and listservs. With the 81st Legislature now in session, a listserv focusing on our critical issues was launched on January 29, 2009 by David H. Pierce. Pierce currently moderates 2 other listservs on captioning and filmmaking.
To join, please state your name, your organizational affiliation/membership, and Texas city you live in so we can assemble a good group of people to work collectively together in this online think tank. The link to the listserv is:

Any deaf person lives in my native Texas is very luck to have very plenty of 18 months to talk with your representative Texas State government before each Legislature session(140 days). In Maryland, we have only three months legislature session but not enough time to work on which bill, otherwise lead this bill to die in ten days historically.
When Stephen Weiner, former texan talked in our local leaders meeting, my mind got bingo!
I realized pending on plenty of time. When we had a lot of hard works to pass the bill to have Deaf and HH agency first time in Maryland, I asked Kelby Brick good question how long did it take to have Deaf HH office. It took almost 35 years to get that. Later our state considered against hiring a secretary as chairperson mentioned serious communication problem at her job, I said that good point to that problem as we could not afford other 35 years ahead. Having DHH office, we must to do faster with other organizations to work hardy on next bill during each 9 months plus three months session.
Good luck for you all in Texas to help Deaf/HH people better in 18 months(Symposium) period plus each session.
I still learn on all each state with its sessions as really
periods are variable long/short but I noticed that middle states
including SD, ND to Texas but in the West/ the East, voice speed
must speak very faster as 300 words per minute.
