President Hurwitz to help dedicate new Southwest Regional Center: Austin Community College

Alumni are invited to the grand opening of the Gallaudet University Southwest Regional Center on Wednesday, January 12 at 2 p.m. at Austin Community College, Riverside Campus, 1020 Grove Boulevard, Austin, Tex. Gallaudet President T. Alan Hurwitz and Austin Community College District President and Chief Executive Officer Stephen B. Kinslow will formally dedicate the new center. An open house will follow.

 

The Southwest Regional Center will serve Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah. Arlene Garcia Gunderson, ’00, has been appointed director. The opening of the new Southwest Regional Center follows the inauguration last fall of the Midwest Regional Center at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill. Sheri Cook is the center's director. Dr. Hurwitz and Dr. Joseph Innes, PhD ’00, former dean of the College of Professional Studies and Outreach, took part in its grand opening on November 23. The Midwest Regional Center serves Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The Gallaudet University Regional Centers offer extension courses, training workshops, and technical assistance to address the educational, transition, and professional development needs of deaf and hard of hearing people from birth through adulthood. Families and professionals also benefit. Lisa C. Jacobs, ’81, is interim director of Regional and National Outreach, and also directs the Southeast Regional Center, housed at Gallaudet.
